# Screen readers for Windows
You need to set up a virtual machine (VM) to use the NVDA and JAWS screen readers with IE and Edge.
Go to Confluence for virtual machine setup steps (opens new window).
# NVDA commands
Software required:
- Download NVDA.
- Download SharpKeys (opens new window). So that you can remap keys to work across Windows and Mac.
Change keyboard layout for Mac laptop:
Insert
+ n
(to open the menu). Then Preferences > Keyboard Settings.
(Optional) Focus highlight: To have the location of the screen reader highlighted, download focus highlight (opens new window).
